Nurnberg: Christmas markets

After running ourselves ragged in Vienna, we took the train to Nurnberg. There’s a lot to like about this German city. It fairly crackles with the hum of people, the bright lights of a medieval old town and the taste of that famous Nurnberg sausage.

Nurnberg’s Nazi history is also a magnet that continues to attract visitors. The Nuremberg War Trials of 1945 and 1946 put this town firmly on people’s radar. Hitler held his massive Nazi rallies here and while the swastika may be missing; it was shot down by the Russians, anyone familiar with films featuring the massive Nazi Rally Grounds will recognise the scene in the photo below. Two hundred thousand people would assemble here before the Fuhrer on grounds the size of 12 football fields. There’s an excellent museum here as well.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I needed longer in Nurnberg. Two days went nowhere.
