The next part of our trip was a late addition and out of whack with the rest of the itinerary thanks to my daughter who was travelling with us and at last minute, wanted to visit Neuschwanstein Castle (pictured above). The castle is geographically closer to Munich, but with so much to see in this great city, we just couldn’t fit it in. So, after our stay in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, we took a train to Fussen along the Romantic Rd. For five hours we sat back and enjoyed the sights of this scenic part of Bavaria.
Fussen in the Bavarian Alps ratcheted our trip up to the next level of gorgeous Christmas villages. Besides being a fabulous base to explore the King’s Castles – Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, Fussen Old Town begs to be admired.

Fussen was wonderful. I just want to add that if you are taking the train from Rothenburg to Fussen, there are two tight connections (around 4-5 minutes). We thought that we may not make the connecting trains. Actually, it was quite easy to navigate ourselves from one platform to another.
Next stop: Strasbourg France
Thanks for the great pictures!
