El Nido Palawan Philippines

El Nido is where you come for nature, for those magnifique limestone rocky outcrops, for warm ocean waters, for quiet times. We stayed at Mahogany Resort in a bungalow on Corong Corong Beach. Set amongst well cared for gardens and boasting a well patronised restaurant with an equally well patronised daily happy hour, we glided effortlessly through a week here.

Pleased to discover we were walking distance to several excellent restaurants like this one below.

Island tours are big business and with good reason. Tours begin and end at Corang Corang, boats are comfortable, guides are attentive and the destinations so drop dead gorgeous that even light rain does not detract from their beauty.

Nice to get loose to snorkel in these emerald green waters that are home to a treasure trove of colourful coral and fish
If you had your own boat … these isolated beaches are yours for the taking

A couple of kilometres walk away from our hotel is El Nido town. It’s a backpacker town, laden with hostels, cafes, a definite vibe and ferry to Coron.

The walk to El Nido. Check the jeepney on the right – a carry over from WWII

Nacpan Beach, 5 kms long and 30 mins north of El Nido made the Top 10 beaches in the world in 2016.

With temps hitting 30 degrees, Nacpan beach was the place to be especially at one of the beach bars that dot the middle of the beach. Escape to either end of the beach to embrace some solitude.

This was our creative mode of transport all around El Nido. Definitely airy and luggage is tied to the back.

Philippines leading boutique airline, Swift connects Borocay to El Nido. We thoroughly enjoyed our small plane experience: turbulence and all.. such is travel at this time of the year in this part of the world.

Swift owns El Nido Airport (in addition to some resorts here), so monopolises the runway. Other airlines fly into Puerto Princessa, 5 hours drive south.

We’re Swifting our way to Bohol today!
