Australia: Gold Coast QLD

It’s January here at the Gold Coast; it’s summer, it’s hot and it’s high time I blogged about my own backyard.

The Gold Coast is a stunning coastline of surf beaches, just south of Brisbane Queensland stretching for 57 kilometres and a place where I like to spend my summers. So, for the next couple of months, I’ll be hunkering down on my local beach, my cossie clad backside parked firmly in the sand, sunscreen plastered thick and heavy (thanks to Australia’s very high skin cancer rates), a steaming flat white in one hand (crazy drink choice for summer, but I’m addicted) and a novel in the other. It’s where I return after travelling and it’s where I ‘learn to love the moments between destinations’.

Steamy 30 degree celsius days where the humidity hovers in the high 60s are common in January. But all’s good because surfers, paddle boarders and swimmers can immerse themselves in this vast palette of cool blue Pacific water and then stretch out lazily on the sand. Even our winter months, June to August are enjoyable with daytime temperatures a mild 20 celsius.

The pics in this blog are of the southern Gold Coast.

Of course, there’s far more to the Gold Coast than what’s in this blog. There’s beautiful northern beaches at Mermaid, Miami, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and Main. In addition, there’s no shortage of accommodation (5 star to hostels), wonderful cafes and restaurants, theme parks (Dream World, Movie World, Sea World, Wet n Wild), a casino and an international and domestic airport.

Finally, I wanted you to see this beach beauty below which is a firm favourite of mine. It’s not on the Gold Coast it lies one hour south, it’s Byron Bay – an Aussie icon!
